Treasurer

The role:

Outer Space is looking for a new board member who has an interest in the arts and an ability to lead the development of annual budgets for Outer Space, develop annual projections of funding to inform Board decisions about future investment and employment, and undertake general bookkeeping and account management. The responsibilities would include:

  • Developing and monitoring an annual budget

  • Reporting to the Board every month on the revenue received and expenses incurred

  • Overseeing accounts payable for gallery expenses including payments to artists and writers 

  • Overseeing accounts receivable including monitoring receipts from funding bodies such as the Australia Council and Queensland Arts

  • Providing input to funding acquittals (e.g. advice on items that the funding was spent on and any remaining funding).

Experience in bookkeeping with not-for-profit organisations and in using Xero is preferred but not essential. It is strongly preferred that the successful applicant is able to commit to two years with the organisation as part of the Board leadership.

Outer Space is a not-for-profit contemporary arts organisation. We collaborate with artists and art workers to develop, make, and present critically engaged creative practice in a supportive professional environment. Our exhibitions, events and programs welcome those involved in, and curious about, the arts. Outer Space is committed to fostering a sustainable creative community in Brisbane that engages local, regional, national and global contexts. 

 

Outer Space is based in Brisbane but the successful applicant need not be.

Shadow Treasurer

Outer Space is looking for a new board member who has an interest in the arts and an ability to support the Treasurer with general bookkeeping and account management. The responsibilities would include:

  • Accounts payable for gallery expenses including payments to artists and writers 

  • Accounts receivable including monitoring receipts from funding bodies such as the Australia Council and Queensland Arts

  • Supporting bookkeeping and revenue monitoring for any fundraiser art exhibitions (usually once per year)

  • Providing input to funding acquittals (e.g. advice on items that the funding was spent on and any remaining funding).

Experience in bookkeeping with not-for-profit organisations and in using Xero is preferred but not essential.
